How long have you been a volunteer at Beaumond House?
Since 2004.
How did you become a volunteer at Beaumond House?
I decided to look into volunteering as opposed to returning straight to work after my triplets started school. I felt that volunteering would afford me a level of flexibility that working would not with having young children. I just wanted to DO something, to meet new people and at the same time feel like I was providing a service to others.
Why do you continue to be a volunteer at Beaumond House?
Because I enjoy coming, and it still fits in well around my family life. If I’m having a bad day or I’m feeling down, my spirits always lift as I approach the house as it’s such a positive place with a friendly atmosphere.
What is your role at Beaumond House?
I actually have numerous roles. I work in day-care alongside the nursing staff, helping with patients, but I am also a driver and I help with the fundraising bag-packing events throughout the year.
What does the each role entail?
In day-care I chat to the patients, get involved with any activities which might be going on, I make drinks for patients and serve the lunch, it a very social time. When driving, I transport patients into and home from day-care. I bag pack (usually at Marks & Spencer’s) whenever the vents are held throughout the year, and I love doing that as it’s fun and I enjoy seeing what everyone has in their basket as I’m nosy by nature!
What is your favourite part of the role?
I can’t say I have a favourite part, I truly enjoy it all.
What changes have you seen during your time at Beaumond House?
I’ve seen many, staff and patients of course, but in essence despite the changes, day-care remains constant so that the patients continue to receive high quality care. The other main change that I’ve seen is the opening of the Resource and Information Centre.
If you had to describe Beaumond House to a stranger, how would you sum it up?
A welcoming, friendly, vibrant house.
Anything else you would like to add?
Everyone, from whatever background they come, is treated the same and everyone is made to feel welcome. I have met some lovely people over the years; patients, families, staff and other volunteers.

Yes, definitely.
