Kind student donates £500 to Beaumond House

A student who raised £500 for a foreign community project trip has donated the money to Beaumond House Community Care.

Archie Brooks (16), a student at the Newark Academy, had been due to travel to Morocco this summer.

He and his family raised £500 towards the cost with friends and acquaintances helping with gifts to sell, cash donations and a bake sale hosted by his old primary school in Farndon.

The Covid pandemic meant the trip could not go ahead as planned and it has now been decided to cancel it completely.

As a result Archie has decided to give the money he raised to Beaumond House in memory of his grandfather Raymond Chapman. He died in the hospice in December 2003, before Archie was born.

“The hospice provided great care for my grandfather and the support given to my family was greatly appreciated and still remembered today,” he said.

“I hope my donation will help other people and their families receive the same care.”

Head of fundraising and marketing Cathy Lowe said it was wonderful gesture and would be a huge help.

“What a lovely thing to do,” she said. “It is thanks to Archie and others like him that we are able to continue to offer such wonderful care to the community.”
