Newark Dragon Boat Festival 2022

Thousands of people attended the 2022 Newark Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday 18th September, which was a huge success once again. Sunday saw the third time the event has taken place, raising funds for Beaumond House Hopsice Care and The Children’s Bereavement Centre. The charities are extremely grateful for the support shown by the local community as well as the teams taking part, event sponsors and supporters and the event volunteers.

Thirty-four crews from local businesses and organisations took part in the event. The winners were UMC Architects 1, with Future Cloud Accounting in second place United by Football coming third.

87 volunteers were involved across the day. Beaumond House and The Children’s Bereavement Centre are extremely grateful to each and every volunteer; the event would not have been able to go ahead without their support.

The 2021 festival raised £46,000 shared by the two charities. This will be the biggest fundraiser in the calendar for both charities in 2022 and organisers recognise the challenges many of us are facing at this moment, so are hopeful the final funds raised will be as close to that as possible.

Head of fundraising and marketing at Beaumond House, Catheryn Lowe, said

“Thank you so very much for everyone who gave their time support and donations to support this year’s Dragon Boat Festival. It takes a lot of people to make this event the success it is and each one of you has played a vital role in helping to support two local charities who are so dependent upon this type of support to ensure they can continue to offer their services. We are so very grateful. Beaumond House needs to raise around £1million every year to ensure that it can continue to aim to deliver outstanding hospice care to enable local communities to live and to die well – it is people like you who have meant that your local hospice has able to do this for the last 35 years.”

Fundraising and marketing manager for the Children’s Bereavement Centre, Rachel Wilson, said

“We are absolutely overwhelmed with the support we have received from all areas of the local community for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival. We are really proud to organise this event which enables us to bring the local community together, and Newark did what Newark does best and came out to support us. To the sponsors and teams that took part, the local acts, activities, and food stands that kept us all entertained and fed all day, the many amazing volunteers we had on site, and of course the thousands of people that came out to watch, a heartfelt thank you.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. The Children’s Bereavement Centre is here to support local families through one of the most devastating times in their lives and the vital funds raised from the Dragon Boat Dragon Boat Festival will help make it possible for us to be there and continue to support the local community for many years to come”

The charities would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of the teams who took part, the sponsors GXO and event partners Motorfinity, Ringrose Law and Lindum Group as well as the event supporters Newark & Sherwood District Council, Newark Town Council, Greenzone Facilities Management, Security2, Grey Monkey Toilets and Simply Sweet.

The resounding success of the day was unfortunately tarnished slightly when organisers of a tombola in aid of the two charities, realised that their hard-earned cash containing approx. £500 was unfortunately stolen, leaving them feeling devastated and upset for the loss of income for the two charities they had worked so hard to support.

The organisers look forward to plans developing for the Newark Dragon Boat Festival 2023. If you would like to be involved, please contact Catheryn at cathy.lowe@beaumondhouse.co.uk or Rachel at rachel@childrensbereavementcentre.co.uk to register your early interest and avoid disappointment.
