Shining a light on our fundraisers during Hospice Care Week

Updated: Oct 16

This week is Hospice Care Week and the theme is hospice retail and fundraising.

Hospices nationally are facing huge financial pressure. The modest amounts of funding they receive from the Government are forcing some to cut their vital services.

Thousands of brilliant hospice staff provide exceptional care every single day. But they should be properly funded by the Government, not through hospices’ shops and fundraising.

Here we shine a spotlight on some of our wonderful fundraisers.

Les Reid has organised several fundraising events in aid of Beaumond House in memory of his late wife, Marian and has shown dedication and commitment to raising money and awareness of the hospice. To date, he has raised over £6,600. His first fundraising event was just a few weeks after his wife’s death, but he was determined to make it happen and did a fantastic job and Les continues to support Beaumond House. As a result of his fantastic efforts, Les was nominated for an award at the Palliative & End of Life Care Awards and became a well-deserved finalist in the ‘Best Fundraiser’ category.

Paddy Whur, former captain of Norwood Park Golf Club in Southwell, has helped raise over £17,000 for Beaumond House. Paddy is set to participate in our 2025 Finland Trek, and as part of his previous fundraising efforts, Paddy has completed a Kilimanjaro trek, as well as the National Three Peaks and Yorkshire Three Peaks which were in a single day. Paddy also appointed Beaumond House as one of the golf club’s charities of the year.

Zoe Picker, whose mother and grandma were cared for by Beaumond House, has since organised various fundraising activities. From cake sales, raffles, Dry January, and a Medium Night, Zoe has raised nearly £4500 for the hospice. Zoe put together a moving Facebook video speaking of her family’s experience with Beaumond House. The video was seen more than 3,000 times and as a result, more than £1,500 was donated to the hospice.

We are so grateful to each and every one of our supporters and we could not continue to provide personalised care to patients and their families without your support.
