My story within Beaumond House began around 2010. My whole family has always had close ties to the hospice. My mother, who starts our first chapter, was a Day Therapy patient. I remember fondly of the stories my father told. Staff who were on duty at the time told me how much she enjoyed meeting everyone, joining in with activities, singing, and enjoying the nutritious meals the catering team provided her.
We really appreciate the support shown to us from Beaumond House. My father and brother wanted to give back and help by donating their time as volunteers. My father spent several years as a driver, which he really enjoyed, and continued volunteering till the passing of my mother in late 2016. My brother found the opportunity to get hands-on in the kitchen kick-starting his interest in cooking.
The second chapter of my tale begins in late 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was facing redundancy from a previous job and began a desperate search to find new employment. The job market at the time was barren, a scary time to be out of the workforce.
In late September/early October 2020 I saw a vacancy for a Bank Housekeeper. At the time I wasn’t sure what the term “Bank” meant; I assumed it was financially related (as you do, a bank has money!) I promptly sent in my CV and was invited to a virtual interview a couple of weeks later. I had my first day on the 6th November 2020, a week after I left my previous job.
Almost four years have passed and I have been a contract Housekeeper for just over a year and a half, and it’s been brilliant. I love working alongside the Housekeeping and Catering team and I also love chatting with patients, volunteers & my fellow colleagues from other departments. Everyone is so lovely and absolutely incredible. From myself and my family, thank you Beaumond House for all the love and support you have given us over the years.
